RUSSELL TANOUE'S BIRTHDAY BASH!

Aloha!!
I feel honored for the second year in a row i was asked to make Glam Photographer Russell Tanoue's Birthday cake.
Kim Koga threw Russell a party at Pacific Club by invite only and then the after party at Pearl Ultralounge.
If you were one of the 50 people first at The Pacific Club we supplied cookies for the gift bags! And if you went to Pearl then you saw this cake!
The colors for Russell's party were Black and Gold. @ of the hardest colors to work with for a cake. But this cake was awesome.

Russell's next project will be his annual fundraiser for his Project Shine on August 14. We will be donating cookies for gift bags and we will have some mini cupcakes and mini pastries. So go buy your ticket and support a good cause. Keep looking here for more information on project Shine and how you can get tickets.

FRENCH INSPIRED WEDDING AND GROOMS CAKES

Aloha,
I had the pleasure to help Hawaii Bride and Groom Magazine with their booth at the bridal Expo this weekend. These are the 2 cakes I made. The wedding cake has pain painted gold accents and stenciled designs. Brown and ivory with champagne shimmer. I also made a "fabric" flower that was inspired from a flower from a vintage dress i found. This is one of my favorite designs.

Our second cake was a french inspired grooms cake. I hand painted a vintage wine label on molding chocolate, real french macaroons, cheese, fruit and a cigar!! All hand molded. Giving your groom his own special cake is a great way to incorporate his personality into the wedding. Its also a great way to have another flavor cake!!
We make all kinds of groom cakes from beer bottles, and motorcycles, to airplanes and cars.
Until next time when I show you Russell Tanoue's Birthday cake!!

IPOD TOUCH

Aloha!

Coming back from vacation I was excited about our first cake. The Ipod touch! For a special girl turning 14.

I thought no big deal I have an Ipod it will be just like that...nope. I learned a little this cake. The Ipod touch is pretty cool. I never knew you could get online and check email and listen to music and have all these other apps. My Ipod is not like that at all.

I had a fun time making this cake and planning all the apps and even making earphones. Someone even commented to me that their mom thought it was a real Ipod from the photo.

MATCHING DRESS CAKE AND BOUQUET

ALOHA!

I had the pleasure to work with such a wonderful couple not to long ago. They traveled from the mainland to have their wedding on the beach here in Hawaii. Even though it was only the 2 of them they still wanted a small cake. Our bride wanted to have a cake to match her dress and her flowers. So we made a hourglass shaped cake and wrapped the fabric around the cake and matched the fabric flower. We made a sugar flower bouquet for the top of her to match, with orchids, roses and small cherry blossom flowers.

She sent us am email when they returned home to let us know they loved their cake and joked how they would eat it all.

This cake had 2 different flavors since they both like something different. Just one way we try to customize our cakes.

TOWER OF PASTRIES!

Aloha,
Right before we started our vacation we had the pleasure to celebrate our clients wedding with pastries. Pastries are the new trend for weddings for couples who do not want a wedding cake and not everyone does. This pastry tower had a variety of pastries including mini cupcakes, lilikoi macadamia nut cheesecake, mixed mini fruit tarts, lemon tarts and my favorite, linzer bars. I love that we spilled the pastries out onto the table on top of monstera leaves.

So if your looking for an addition to your desserts or you are looking for another option for a wedding cake, we offer a full pastry menu, macaroons and truffles.

Congratulations to our couple!

HOMER AND THE LITTLE PINK DOUGHNUT

Aloha!

I am glad to be back from vacation and baking again. I am also excited to share these photos with you of a wedding we did before vacation. Our bride wanted a 2 tier hexagon shaped cake with beautiful hand made purple orchids. She also wanted to surprise her groom with a grooms cake of Homer Simpson holding a beer. We were totally stoked to make this cake. We even added a little pink doughnut with a bite out of it. When we arrived at the hotel one of the staff actually thought someone took a bite of it. It was funny. I love how Christie Pham photographed the couples rings on the doughnut. Super cute and unique.
We wish our couple a happy marriage with lots of love.

WE ARE BACK BUT ONE LESS

ALOHA,

I hope your summer is going well!
We have missed you all very much. We have been off for over a month now. A well needed rest but vacation time to spend with family. Unfortunately, we have lost Nick for a year. For those of you who do not know, Nick is in the Navy here in Hawaii. He has left on deployment over the 4th of July weekend. He will be missed not only in the cake design process that he is so good at but also at home.

Because of this loss the structure of the business has changed and will continue to change until he returns. I will be the only one running the business so as of right now we can not take on as much work as we have been. What does this mean to you? If you are booking our services please contact us as soon as possible so we can get the date reserved for you. We do book up fast and I want to make sure i can fit you all in.

I will also be taking more vacation so that I can spend time with Nick when he has his break. I am very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you.
I am very proud to be a wife of a sailor and I support Nick in this new journey he is on. I pray for his safe return.

I hope you all can understand and support me as well. All of your emails and phone calls are important to me and I will do my best to answer them all in a timely manner.
We will be resuming our wholesale deliveries the week of the 12th to Hapa Dog, Kailua First Stop and Bad Ass Coffee Company. So look out for us and some new pastries!

Thank you all for being loyal customers and I am looking forward to getting back to baking and posting some cakes we have done!

PERFECT SPRING GARDEN WEDDING

Aloha,
Wedding season 2010 is upon us and I am so lucky to work with such wonderful and fun couples. One of our recent couples I worked with is Grant and Sarah. Grant contacted me last year about his wedding to Sarah. He was in charge of the wedding cake and wanted to meet with us to see what we had to offer. Once they had the invitations we met and came up with a design based off their invitation. A garden flower theme. We took all the element from their invitation. Grass and flowers all in pastel yellow, peach and cream colors.

They choose 3 different flavors of Raspberry Lemon, Bananas Foster and Strawberry Guava.

We also were honored to make the favors for the wedding. Matching flower cookies in cream and peach colors. We made 550 cookies to be boxed and tied with ribbon. They were very cute boxes and looked great on the tables.

The wedding was held in the beginning of April at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel.
The Monarch Room was set with pretty pastels and beautiful mix of hydrangeas and roses set up by The Flower Girls.
Grant and Sarah were in good hands with photographer Garrett Nose, who was kind enough to supply us the following cake pictures.

It was a pleasure to work with Grant and Sarah and we wish them many years of love and happiness. We look forward to watching their family grow. Congratulations.

Come Join us at Therapy Boutique this Sunday!

Decorous Jewelry Trunk Show At Therapy Boutique, Kahala Mall

Honolulu, Hawaii (April 13, 2010) – Maui jewelry designer, Noryne Taylor started Decorous Studio in 2004. A jewelry designer with attitude! Noryne loves working with the precious metals and gemstones that our planet provides. As she casts, forms and polishes metal, she feels that she is taking part in a larger creative process that began with the earth itself. Jewelry making allows her to explore ideas of beauty and the relationships that we have between concepts of who we are and the outward expressions that we choose.

At Decorous, each piece of jewelry begins life as a personal project, something created out of a sense of curiosity and fun. Inspiration. Expansion. An exploration of a theme, either consciously or unconsciously it grows out of a thematic seed and is underlined with the fundamental quest to understand one's experiences. She hopes to communicate something of herself with each client through her jewelry. Understand the designs as you will. They will speak to you if they are meant to. Let them say what they want. Jewelry is fun. Life is fun, all she wants to do is have fun. Feel free and turn up the music real loud.

For the first time ever, Noryne Taylor’s pieces will be on display on Oahu. To experience the creativity, her line will be at Therapy Boutique In Kahala Mall on Sunday, April 18th from 10:30 to 1:00. Enjoy complementary samplings from Sunshine's Cake Creations.

THANK YOU COOKIES!

ALOHA!
One of our returning clients ordered these cookies to thank the sub division offices. How awesome I thought when she told me what she was looking for.
Its rare as employees that we hear thank you for a job well done. But to give a gift, and a big gift at that. These cookies measured 10 inches.
I loved the design with the flowers and butterflies. All my favorite. And I was making the cookies they made me happy. I hope whoever received them felt the same way.
I wrapped each cookie with cellophane and tied them with pink ribbon and attached a tag (that matched the cookie design)

So if you are looking to thank someone special or your office or anyone let us know and we can help make it extra sweet!

ALICE IN WONDERLAND FOR SOPHIE ELIZABETH

ALOHA!
With all the hype of the movie Alice in Wonderland I have been getting a lot of cake requests for this theme so you will see more and more popping up soon. But Analyne contacted us last year for her daughter's 1st birthday cake. Way before she even knew the movie would be out.
And I was excited to make this cake. I think Alice in Wonderland is a very interesting story.

We design this cake with a some of the characters from the movie, The queen of hearts, Alice, Cheshire cat and the rabbit. One of my favorite parts of this cake is the the black and white diamond swirl!
Analyne picked out Banana Haupia and Chocolate Hazelnut crunch flavors for her cake!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Sophie Elizabeth!

AVA'S FAIRY GARDEN BIRTHDAY

ALOHA!
We were so excited when Miriam contacted us again for Ava's 2nd birthday. We met Miriam, Nathan and Ava last year when we were contacted to make her 1st birthday cake which was a candlyland theme!

Miriam wanted a fairy garden theme with a cake and cupcakes. She sent me her invitation to base the design and colors from. I was super excited to make Ava's cake again. We love when our clients come back often for cake because we love to watch families grow.

Ava's party was set for February 27th. As many of you may know this date well, this was tsunami Saturday. We have 3 other events this day in the morning. Ava's party was the only one in the evening. As we waited and waited all day we got the word at about 3 pm that Ava's party was still going to happen. Miriam and her family had to evacuate their home on the North Shore and we were so happy when she called to let us know everything was a go. The only event to go on this day for us.

When we arrived at her home she had this beautiful set up for the cakes. Its a no wonder Miriam likes to plan parties. She is very good at decorating. I was so excited to set up the cake and cupcakes. Miriam was so surprised that we took the exact fairy from her invitation and put it on her cake.

I was so honored to make Ava's cake again. And we look forward to her 3rd birthday!

A GARDEN BIRTHDAY

Aloha!

I want to continue with an event we had this past weekend. One that was not on Tsunami Saturday but on Sunday Morning.

Bella Rae's 1st birthday. I met her Mom a few months back. Her and her mother in law were in charge of planning the party but more important the cake!

I fell in love with both of them when we met. They were so funny together and you could tell got along very well and made lots of compromises with each other.

We designed a 2 tier Topsy turvy cake with a Terra Cotta flower pot on top. The flower pot was designed from pictures they would take with Bella Rae. Every month they got her picture taken with different flowers or flowers pots. They are really adorable photos.

We also added an element from Vanessa's wedding. In her flowers when she got out of the church 2 monarch butterflies were sitting in her bouquet. Everyone thought this was magical and special and they wanted to incorporate that butterfly element. So I hand painted a monarch butterfly for the center, top on the flower pot. Also inside were Gerber daisies, orchids and other smaller flowers.

The cake came out super cute and when we arrived Vanessa so was so excited for it! She loved it.

They also choose, Red Velvet, Lemon Raspberry and Chocolate Hazelnut Crunch flavors.

We wish Bella Rae a Happy 1st Birthday and Can not wait for her 2nd!!

This picture does not do this cake justice. It was big and had lots of colors, and bees flying out the cake, ladybugs and all kinds of flowers!

NOAH'S ARK!

Aloha!!
As you all know this past Saturday is being called Tsunami Saturday. And what a day it was. Most people woke up to the sound of The Civil Defense Sirens, but not us. We actually were working on this Noah's Ark cake when we heard the news of the tsunami threat to the Hawaiian Islands. This was at 1am on Saturday Morning. My first thought when hearing all this news was,"oh no what about my events?" I know I should have been thinking about higher ground, supplies and all that but really my first thought was all the events we had and their cakes. What were we going to do? Being 3 am now i decided to get our supplies and things together but was determined to find a way to get our cakes to our clients. But unfortunately with police closing streets and hotels and business closing there was not much we could.

Our first event of the day was in Waikiki and I talked Lynn and she had told me the hotel had to cancel her party. We had a the cutes Noah's Ark cake that matched her centerpieces and 100 yummy cupcakes!

After all was said and done we were able to deliver her cake to her home so she and her family could as least enjoy the birthday cake.
Isaac and Ivan are 2 lucky little boys! They had the whole cake for themselves for their first birthday!!
We are looking forward to the rescheduled party in the near future but for now you can enjoy this cake and all the little animals on it!

Check back this week for more of our Tsunami Cakes!

GERBER DAISY MEET COLOR

Aloha!
This is one of my Favorite weddings. The colors were so amazing. I met with Poppy one afternoon at her home in Kailua. I typically do not meet in clients homes but Poppy explained to me that she has children so I totally understood and decided to meet her. And I am glad i did for 2 reasons. 1. her wedding reception was taking place in her backyard and 2. her house is amazing. Poppy own her own upholstery business so you know that her furniture looks great. Her house is very unique is the design and colors. I can see why she picked the colors she did for her wedding. Pinks, Greens, oranges. All very bright shades.

She knew she wanted Gerber Daisies and color so we incorporated the cake and cupcakes for the kids with all different shades of daisies. She also purchased these cute butterfly toppers.

The reception was held in her large backyard that was decorated with paper laterns, lights and lots of color. She even thought of the kids too and set them up their on table with things to color on. Super cute idea.

I was honored to be a part of such a special couple's day. She called me a few days after to thank me and tell me how she and all her guests just loved the cake and how the kids ate all the cupcakes up!
I wish Poppy and her new family nothing but the best. They all deserve a wonderful beginning to a new life.
