ACE OF CAKES IS IN HAWAII.......

ALOHA!
Welcome to your Aloha Friday! This week has been crazy busy. I have been trying to get ready for the Green Living Expo and some events that I have over the weekend. I also am going to start a very busy month starting Sunday. I am stoked but crazed at the moment.
On Thursday we took some time out to go and be a part of ACE OF CAKES. That's right, Duff and his crew are here this week filming the last episode of season six of Ace Of Cakes on
The Food Network. If you are not familiar with this show you must get out of the rock your living under.......no, i understand sometimes we can not always to get to watch TV. I DVR all my shows....
Anyway, The Charm City Cake Crew is in Hawaii this week to make a cake for LOST (the TV show). We can't tell you what the cake is for or what it looks like. You will all have to wait to watch the last show of this season to see what the cake is.
I can tell you another reason they are here was to give back to the military community. They wanted to supply the Army with a cake to say thanks for all the hard work and the sacrifice that those men and women make everyday.
The whole cake crew was here. The doors opened at 2 pm and 500 people flooded into Tropics on Scholfeild Army Base. The cameras were ready , the stage was set and the people were excited and waiting to see what Duff and his crew had up their sleeves. We all know that these talented cake designers always have something very unusual to show.
The crew got up to say some words of praise and thanks to all the people. They finally reveled the cake and it was a Black hawk Helicopter. Very detailed, very neat and clean lines, it was perfect. But the best part the cake had LED lights.....and then the propeller was spinning. That's awesome. We light up cakes all the time the same way but I have always wanted to make a cake spin. It was awesome.
I have come in contact with a lot of people from actors to musicians and even other top notch pastry chefs and cake designers. And I have to say that Duff, Geoff, Mary Alice and all the others were super nice and down to earth. Very normal nice people. And that's rare once people begin to become famous and make money. You would never know from these guys that were famous and their popularity growing.
If you had the chance to watch Ace of Cakes tonight, very ironic that they had a Hawaiian, Tiki Bar cake on the show! It was cool.
Enjoy these pictures if you could not be there for the taping. I know we were stoked to have that chance.

Check out Charm City Cakes website if you have not already. There are some cool cakes and some things you can buy from the store and check out thier blog. I like the crew of the week and now employee of the week.

HANNAH AND LJ

ALOHA,
I hope everyone had a relaxing weekend and enjoyed the beautiful weather!
On Sat we had a few events. Our last event was Hannah and LJ's wedding. I met Hannah and LJ back in the middle of 08. They are both 2 of the sweetest people. I had a good time at the tasting. During this time I found out that Hannah is a graphic designer and she is owner of BANANA GRAFEEKS.

After our tasting I checked out her website and fell in love with her work. She is a very talented girl. I called her right away and asked her if she would help me design my business logo. I had something in mind, I even had a tattoo of it but I need help turning it into a beautiful, whimsical design. She agreed and then she asked if we would make her cake. It was a perfect match!

Hannah also mentioned she wanted a grooms cake and when I offered to make she explained to me that she wanted to take car of it. She wanted it to be personally from her to him. How sweet! Its not enough to have family from the mainland here, entertaining them, getting ready for a wedding but she also wanted to make a cake!! Good for her. I gave her some tips and advice and lots support. I was so excited to see her cake. I waited and waited for them to show up not only to see the cake but to see Hannah and Lj. They are a very special couple. I was very lucky to have been chosen to make their wedding a little extra special.

Hannah and LJ picked 2 of our popular flavors. Red Velvet and Chocolate Hazelnut Crunch. She choose a white on white design. She wanted the design of her wedding dress on the cake. That is always a difficult request. To get it perfect can sometime be a hard project. After 6 hours of piping and cutting little pieces out the cake was finished. I loved this cake. It was beautiful, and clean. The cake toppers were porcelain angles kissing. Very simple.

They had the wedding reception at The Bishop Museum. Beaches and Backyards Catering supplied them with pupus, dinner and the bar.

We wish both Hannah and LJ a long long life of happiness and love. Thank you for letting us be a part of your special day.

Thank you Hannah for creating a logo that reflects me and my business. It has created a lot of buzz.

Enjoy some of her pictures that I took.

THE COMMODORE AND HIS P3 PLANE

Aloha!

I was contacted by The Navy Catering on MCBH to create another P3 plane for the Commodore of the base

Captain R M Urbano who was hosting a dinner party for other Commodores visiting Hawaii and MCBH. I was excited to make another P3 plane. The first P3 I made was for a retirement and it was so much fun to make but because it was my first large plane I learned a lot for the next time. There are lots of different variations of P3 planes. This time I went on base and took pictures of the P3 plane. And it was perfect because The Commodore's name was on this plane so I knew the more detail I put on it they would know this was "his" plane!!

I made our famous Banana's Foster flavor which is the top requested flavor. I put green and red LED lights on the wings and 2 white lights in the front of the plane. I really like to light cakes up. It really adds that extra touch that makes cake unique. I also did something I usually never do. On the board for the cake I put big pieces of cotton fluff for clouds. The last time I piped clouds on the board but this time I wanted a different look. It came out awesome looking, like the plane was really flying through the clouds.

Nick worked this party for the catering so he was able to see the guests and their reaction to the cake. He said everyone loved it. They were all impressed that it looked like the mighty P3 plane. Its always exciting to hear how everyone loves the cakes I make. It makes it all worth it.

Enjoy these pictures, and for the other P3 plane cakes check out www.sunshinescakecreations.com
Happy Wednesday!

Leah and Thom Cornog's Wedding

Aloha!!
Hope you all had a restful weekend. We have been so busy. I wanted to share this wedding with you. On Friday I received a card from Leah and Thom. It was so beautiful that I had to share it.

Leah contacted me back in the summer about her wedding. Her and Thom were to be married September 28, 2008 at Luana Hills Country Club. If you have never been there the scenery is breathtaking. You really understand the meaning of magical when you visit here. Its perfect for weddings.

Leah's colors were blue and white and she decided to go with a cupcakes tier wedding cake. Always fun to make. She choose to have mixed colors for her cupcakes and large Gardenia flowers on every other cupcake. We decided to have the cupcakes spilling out on the table and it looked so beautiful with the green mountains behind them.

We did not have the chance to see Leah and Thom that day but we know they had a great time by the pictures that we are posting.

Inside the posting was a website for the wedding information and more pictures. Check out the website http://www.leahandthom.com/ If your a bride or groom you can create a website too...its a great way for everyone to have information about the big day!!

It was a pleasure to meet Leah and we wish you both a long life of Love and Happiness! Thank you for letting us share your special day!
For more pictures of their cupcakes visit www.sunshinescakecreations.com in our gallery cupcakes page.

BUTTERFLY THEME FOR LEENA AND BRANDON

Aloha!
Leena and Brandon were such a pleasure to work with. They contacted me about their wedding cake because Brandon found my business card at Honda Windward. He was waiting for a manger and while he was at the counter he noticed a pile of my cards, and a picture with of a cake with butterflies on it. Yes, these were my old business cards before I changed them. Good thing he saw it too because the theme for their wedding was butterflies. During the tasting they told me they checked out my website and were so excited to see so many butterfly cakes and they knew they had to contact me.
This butterfly cake is our signature cake. Butterflies represent change and freedom and when I see butterflies I think of nature and beauty and the struggle that took the butterflies to this point. Marriage has all of those elements. Everything changed when you get married. Marriage is a beautiful thing. And so is love. So to have butterflies as a theme for a wedding is a great transition from being single to being married.
Brandon and Leena are a wonderful couple and I was glad to have met them. During the tasting I found out that Brandon is a DJ with R.A.G.E events. I found myself working many events with him and his company. Sometimes things just work out perfect.

Leena and Brandon were married on November 22, 2008. They had their reception In The Manoa Grand Ballroom in Honolulu. This weekend was pouring down rain all weekend but that did stop them from having a great time. I got to see them after we set up their cake. And they looked amazing.
Thank you for letting us share your day with you. I know we will work together again.

Happy Aloha Friday!

NEW YEARS EVE LOVE STORY

Aloha!
So, I checked my email kind of late tonight and I had these pictures waiting for me. I had to post them right away because they look so amazing.

Alicia contacted me about her wedding cake in the beginning of December. A little late to request a wedding cake but when she told me it was on New Years Eve I had to take it. What a great day to get married and a wonderful way to end the new year and start a new one. She was very specific in what she wanted and I had no problem following through.

When I dropped her cake off to her house where she was having her reception she was upset about some things that were not working out to good but I convinced her all would be well and she was going to have a fabulous day. And that she was going to be beautiful. By the look of the pictures not only did she look beautiful but they both so much in love. It also looked like they enjoyed there cake very much. I received a nice email the very next day about how wonderful her cake was and how hey all enjoyed it. A little on her face and up her nose but still enjoyed it non the less!

Alicia and Lee Llyod were marred on the famous Lanikai Beach. They used Leslie Mansperger Photography who captured some very unique and beautiful photos of Alicia and Lee. They also spent what I am sure was an incredible night at The Turtle bay Resort on the North Shore. As you can see from he pictures below Lee surprised Alicia with rose petals from the door to the bed. How romantic. That's a great husband! I love a fairy tale love story and I am honored to have had a part in making their special day a little sweeter.

We wish you both many long years of love and happiness.

SWEET SIXTEEN CANDYLAND THEME

Aloha,

This year has started off super busy and hope this is a sign of a wonderful year to come creating cakes.

Yesterday we were able to share in Arian Sweet sixteen birthday. When Julie, her mom, asked us to make her cake and showed us the invitation we were excited. The candyland them is always a good one. We are big kids at heart and we love love love candy! Julie only asked one thing of the cake and that was for the cake to look like it was falling. This was the only request of her daughter. Everything else was up to us. So I researched the candyland board game for ideas and I took the ideas from the invitation and made my own interpretation of the game. Since Arian had a candy buffet we thought it best to make all the candy from sugar. So we molded all the lollipops, gumdrops, peppermint candies and the rest of the items for the cake.

We achieved the cake to look like it falling over. One vendor turned tome and said, "oh my gosh the cake is going to fall" He acted like he wanted to come and help us fix it. It was perfect. He was surprised to see a cake like this.

Julie had gone all out for Arian's Sweet sixteen. She has some amazing help from different companies. These are just a few she used.

Dianna Shitanishi for all the coordinating.

Les Saisons for the beautful colorful linens.

Beaches and Backyards Catering for all the food. Which included foods from all around the game board.

Bambooth for the photobooth. Very high quality pictures and a great staff to help you along the process.

na mea maika` i for the very colorful candy buffet.

Arron Bernard Photography who was kind enough to supply the pictures of the cake you see below.

She also had a mobile arcade bus that had guitar hero and a Wii set up for the kids to play games. It was a lot to do and I know they had an awesome time.

All the vendors were interviewed by Hawaii In Style Tv and as soon as it airs I will let you all know but for now enjoy the pictures I took while I was there.

ON TOP OF THE WORLD

Aloha!

In the beginning of December I received and e-mail from Alison inquiring about her wedding cake for January 1, 2009. Her and fiance Brian were coming to Hawaii to be married. Alison requesting a cake that was shaped like the world and she had a cake topper to b placed "on top of the world". What a great way to start the new year!

I was excited to make this cake. Because she explained to me that she lives in China and Brian is in New Orleans. The world represents so many things for them. One that they are half a world apart right now and two that they want to travel the world together and see many different things together. What a great concept for a wedding cake. The cake topper was just as awesome. A couple walking on the beach. And the cake topper looked just like Alison and Brian as you will see in the pictures that follow.

So I made the world with all the continents and added The Hawaiian Islands so they will always know where the the marriage started.

Alison and Brian used Hawaiian Eye Weddings and they got married at Waialae Beach Park. It was just the two of them and they looked radiant. When I went to deliver the cake I waited until they were finished with the ceremony and pictures. I am very lucky to have stayed around until after they cut the cake. Its not often I get to watch my couples cut open the cake and eat it. They choose our very popular Strawberry Shortcake. Brian told me before he was not a cake eater at all. When they cut the cake they loved it so much they went back for another piece. We can turn non cake eaters into loving cake!! What a great feeling.

Alison and Brian's wedding cake was great start to the new year for us. I am very lucky to have met them. They were such a wonderful couple to work with. We hope they have many years of travelling and being "on top of the world"

Congratulations to both of them! And thank you for letting us share in your special day.

As soon as I get some professional pictures I will share them but for right now this is what I took.

For more pictures and information on how you can get a one of a kind cake go to http://www.sunshinescakecreations.com/
