CHRISTINE AND JEFF'S HALE KOA WEDDING

Happy Wednesday!!
In the midst of our busy weekend we were able to supply a wonderful couple their wedding cake. Christine and Jeff contacted me awhile back about their wedding. They wanted a very grand cake. Christine knew exactly what she wanted. Which is always a good thing when planning the design of a cake.

When it came time for our tasting Christine and Jeff tasted like 8 different flavors. I remember the e-mail so clearly the day she listed the flavors. She had told me that Jeff looked at my list of flavors and could not choose and wanted to try everyone! How funny. I love that. But the only problem with that is when it comes time to pick flavors for the cake it gets to be over whelming. However not for this couple. They choose a 5 tier cake with 5 different flavors! How awesome. I was so excited for her cake, not because I love to make cakes but because they were such an easy couple to work with and they were so sweet.

Christine and Jeff picked many different flavors that included Red Velvet, Strawberry Shortcake, Bananas Foster and Tirimisu (Jeff's Favorite). They had a 5 tier square cake that was a metallic blue color with brown ribbon and then an accent cream ribbon with dragees to look like a buckle. There were over 200 dragees on this cake. I also placed them at the seam of the ribbon in the back. This was a very simple but elegant cake. I loved the colors.

I received a lovely email this morning from Christine along with some pictures of them. I am excited to share them with you.

Hi Vikki!
Once again, you exceeded my expectations!!! The cake could not have been any better. It was just what I imagined. The shimmer blue was spot on and it portrayed the simplistic elegance I was hoping for. There were numerous comments on how beautiful the cake was and even more comments on how yummy the cake tasted....

On a funny, ironic note, 2 of my friends who attended the wedding saw you delivering a guitar cake the same day and when I told them my cake was made by you they were just flipping out about what a coincidence it was!
Christine
We want to wish a special congratulations to both Jeff and Christine and wish them many happy and loving years together!

82nd BIRTHDAY TO WAKEBOARDING TO LOVE

Happy Monday! Hope your weekend was relaxing and well!

Sometimes we have so many events during the week it is so hard to pick one to blog about. And even though I try hard to blog everyday some cakes get left out of the loop. This past weekend we had 8 events. That's a lot for us to blog about. I am going to concentrate on 2 events we had on Sunday.

Our Sunday Morning started early! With an 82nd candyland themed birthday cake for Aiko. The candyland theme cakes are very popular. I have 2 more in the next month! Stay tuned for those pictures as well.

When we delivered the cake and set it up we heard so many ohhs and ahhs. I just never get tired of people admiring our work. Its so much fun to tell people how we made it all the things on the cake. One woman asked Nick where we were from and when he said Kailua she replied "Your on this island? We have never seen any cakes like this before" She was so cute!

We hope that Aiko liked her cake! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Our second event that concluded our weekend of craziness was for the Tran Wedding. This wedding took place out in one of my favorite spots. Lanikuhonua in Ko'Olina. She had the very talented Katy from Katy Castillo Weddings did all the coordination for this wedding. Along with Memoirs taking care of all the food and drinks.

When we walked up to the area where the tent was i was surprised to see a clear top tent with this beautiful bright blue, pink and brown colors. It was vibrant and alive. The staff from Memoirs were standing in position ready and waiting for the guests to arrive.

I dropped the cake off and set the topper on the cake which was specially made for the couple. They both love to Wake board back in California where they are from. So they wanted to have the cake topper made of both of them wake boarding in their wedding clothes. Cute idea. She had this made from clay from a company in China. She picked 2 popular flavors, Chocolate and raspberry and Chocolate Hazelnut Crunch. I love those all chocolate wedding cakes!!

Check out some pictures of Katy's set up. I just love these colors.

Until next time Have a great day!

ROCKIN' OUT FOR JAIME'S BIRTHDAY

Aloha!! We are going to continue our blogs with music!! We had the soundboard cake this past Wednesday for Star 101.9's Morning Show and now we have a guitar cake for Jaime's birthday! This is actually our first guitar cake! We were so excited to make this cake. This cake was for Jaime Giambrone over at Pacific Edge Magazine. Yesterday was his surprise birthday party held at E&O Trading Company. What a great restaurant. I always love going in there!

Naomi, Jaime's wife contacted me last week about his cake. Jaime loves to play guitar and she also mentioned he is a fan of The Red Hot Chili Peppers. So I wanted to incorporate all these things in the cake. I happen to love the Chili Peppers as well. They are one of my favorite bands. For inspiration I played Blood Sugar Sex Magik, my favorite album by them. We actually used real guitar strings for this cake. It was an interesting trip into the store to get the strings. when i told the guys i needed strings but they were for a cake I think they thought I was crazy. But whatever it takes to make a cake look as real as possible. That was the only non-edible thing on the cake. everything else was made from sugar!

(If your in Kailua head over to Coconut Grove Music Store for your music needs!! The guys were very helpful)

With the help of Morgan at Moana Events, the party stayed a surprise. We walked in to deliver the cake and they had used red and black colors with small disco balls hanging and some really cool rockish amenities all over.

We had a lot of fun making this cake. We learned a lot too. And are excited to make more guitars! Check out some of our new cakes posted at http://www.sunshinescakecreations.com/ We have been super busy!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAIME!!

SWEET SOUND.......BOARD

ALOHA! Welcome to your hump day!

HAPPY 10th ANNIVERSARY to Hudson and Scotty B from Star 101.9. They have been on the air together for 10 years. And we are go they are because they make our mornings so much better. If you do not know what I am talking about you need to get out from the rock your under and check them out! They host The Bizarro Morning Show from 5.30- 10.00 am so go listen to it? Don't have a radio? That's no excuse you can listen live on the website. That's what I do!

So listening to them everyday I noticed that they were giving away vacations for their anniversary but no one was giving them anything so I called them up and talked to Pixie and told her we wanted to come in and make a cake for them. Every special occasion needs a cake! Working with the same people everyday for 10 years at the same job indeed deserves a cake! So Pixie sent me some pictures of the soundboard in the studio. One of the first things I noticed was "the stolen bank pen" I knew that detail was definitely going the cake. I was putting the knobs and buttons on the cake when I noticed an old piece of paper taped to the board and I had no idea what it was but I knew that was going on it as well. All the little details that make a cake personal is really what people love.

Delivering cakes is so much fun. Just the walk alone to get the cake to its destination is fun. And this was no different. Everyone who saw this cake was so impressed at all the details. When we got to the studio we were greeted by Pixie who loved the cake and when we walked into the studio and Hudson and Scotty B saw the cake they were amazed. They were so surprised that we got all the little details on the cake. I even got to see the infamous stolen pen. (don't ask me what my fascination is with this pen, i just think it is funny!)

I was not expecting to be on the radio my goal in this was really to just give them an awesome cake! But they did put me on the radio and it was awesome. Hudson even told me when they were talking about having a cake delivered a girl called up and told them she had one of our cakes and it not only looked good but it tasted good. How awesome is that.

I had a good time and am lucky to have been able to be a small part of their 10th anniversary. Can't wait for another 10 years!!

So they already put up the pictures on their website and you can check it out at the website in their photo gallery http://star1019.com/cc-common/gallery/display.html?album_id=164929 While your there click the listen live button and listen to them from anywhere!!

For more information on how you can have a One of a Kind Cake check out our site at http://www.sunshinescakecreations.com/

Have a great Wednesday! The real "Stolen Pen" Our pen

Samah and Shawn Love on Valentine's Day

Aloha!!

Hope you all had a nice long weekend. We were busy this weekend with lots of cakes. One we want to show you is Samah and Shawns wedding. Samah contacted me one early morning a few months back. She called asking about her wedding cake. She needed a bakery to make her a dairy free cake because of her allergies. I was so excited when i heard this because I just had finished my new vegan menu and I already had a few tastings and my clients loved all the flavors. So when I told her I could help her out she was stoked. We set up a tasting for the following month when they were here to finish up their wedding plans.

I met them at there hotel in the lobby. What a sweet couple. Young and fun and ready to taste some cakes. They came prepared with all the right questions to ask. Samah and Shawn loved the cakes. She could not believe how good the cakes tasted being they had no dairy in them. They decided to pick 2 different flavors. They choose vanilla cake with fresh raspberries for the cake and half the cupcakes and chocolate and fresh strawberries for the remaining cupcakes.

The wedding reception took place at The Beach House Restaurant located in the Surfrider Hotel in Waikiki. We walked into the room and it was so bright and pleasant. The staff was super friendly and getting ready for a busy dinner service.

We set up her cupcake tier and were on our way. We hope Samah and Shawn enjoyed their hibiscus cupcake tier! We wish both of them many years of love and happiness. And look forward to seeing them again.
Until next time, have a great day!

"I LOVE MY WORMS"

ALOHA!
Happy Valentine's Day Weekend. And a long holiday weekend at that! We have been super busy for Valentine's Day. The busiest one since we've been in Hawaii. We had 10 events in 2 days. Phew and now its over and we can relax...for a day anyway. We have 2 high profile events this week along with 2 very special weddings on Saturday. So stay tuned for those stories!!

I want to thank everyone who contacted us for cakes for Valentine's Day. We booked up back in November and we were not taking anymore orders for Saturday. So I apologize to all of you who I had to turn away. I may have upset some of you in the process and for that we are sorry. We only take so many cakes in a day to give our clients cakes they expect. We pride ourselves on high quality. I hope those of you who I had to turn away can understand that. I do not like to say no to anyone but sometimes I just have to draw the line. For those of you who picked up your cakes on Friday, Thank you. You made is possible for us to help you out. We hope you all enjoyed your parties and your loved ones!!

I received a call from Sheryl about a week and half ago about a cake she wanted just because she loved our green tea cake. I met Sheryl when we attended the Green Living Expo 2 weeks ago and she tries some of our samples. When she contacted me she originally wanted her cake for Saturday but I told her like many others I was totally booked but if she wanted to come and pick it up on Friday then we may be able to work something out. She was stoked that I was able to make her cake. At first she just wanted the cake. Nothing to big. Then I asked her what she was into and she told me she was a 'worm wrangler'. At first I though, what is that? Then she explained and I had a cute idea to make her a simple garden theme cake with worms on it. I asked her if she wanted anything written on her cake and she replied ' no i don't think so...then I get an email from her and she said 'yes please write "i love my worms" So this just because cake turned out to be a Valentine's cake after all. There are all kinds of love but loving your worms takes the cake.....ha...cake. get it? Cake humor!

When Sheryl and her husband David came to pick up her cake she was amazed at her cake. She could not believe she was getting a cake like what she got. She showed up with beautiful flowers for me. 3 yellow roses and some purple and pink flowers..(sorry not to sure what they are) but they are beautiful and right out of her garden. It was one of the nicest things!

She loved her cake and I hope that they enjoyed eating it as much as they enjoyed looking at it.

If you want to learn more about what worm wranglers are and how you can help the environment and your garden check out her new website at http://www.ilovemyworms.com/ It is very interesting!

Check back tomorrow for some more of our Valentine's Day cakes!! We have a lot of them!

Have a good weekend!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATY

ALOHA
So the weekend is coming up fast. This week seems to have flown by fast. I wanted to take a minute and wish a special person happy birthday. Katy Castillo has become a very good friend of mine the past few years. I met Katy a few years ago because she was looking for someone to make her a cake for her annual thank you party. When I met Katy the day I delivered her cake I knew she was a special person. She was very kind and friendly and made me feel comfortable around her guests. After her party we stayed in contact but it was not until about a year and a half ago that we began to talk more about business and what was going on around the wedding industry here in Hawaii. Slowly we started to talk on a more personal level. I found myself calling her to ask her advice about things. We started to become friends.

Today I am so lucky to consider Katy my best friend. Since I moved to Hawaii I have seen a lot of people come and go out of my life. It is very hard for me to open up completely to someone and let them in as a friend. And Katy made that easy. She is such a great person with a big heart. She always is thinking about other people before herself. She runs a successful business and has smarts about people.

Saturday February 14th is Katy's 30th Birthday! So I just want to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATY. I hope you enjoy your mini vacation and your birthday! I know your going to kick ass in you 30's!! Thank you for being a part of my life!

So you guys you can wish Katy birthday wishes at Admin@KatyCastillo.com or leave her a comment here!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATY!!!!!!!!

A BEAUTIFUL THANK YOU NOTE!

WOW, 2 IN ONE DAY!

I get so many emails everyday and sometimes I save the ones I want to post and then I get busy I forget to post thank yous either on here on my guestbook on my site. I actually am all caught up in emails and I was going through my saved emails and I cam across this awesome thank you from the Delgados! i wanted to share it with all of you and the pictures from their wedding.

I was sad that I did not get a chance to meet them but from all the phone calls, emails and these pictures, they both look so happy and sweet.

Hi Vikki!!!!I'm sorry it has taken me so long to write to you and tell you how PERFECT!!! our wedding cake was! It was everything we wanted it to be, and more! It was so beautiful! When people talk about our wedding, or look at our pictures, everyone comments on how beautiful the cake was! It was by far the best cake anyone at the wedding has ever tasted! It was so full of flavor, and so moist! Not only was the cake more then we could have asked for, but you were so helpful with the wedding. All of your suggestions were very much appreciated, and so was your kindness! My mom thinks you are an absolute doll, and she is right! I cannot thank you enough for being the kind person that you are! If we decide to renew our vows in a few years, you will definitely be getting a call from us! Thanks again! I'm attaching along some pictures!!!Brittany (Vazzaz) Delgado!
Thank you Brittany for the wonderful e-mail. I am glad we could be apart of your special day. We look forward to you returning to Hawaii someday! We wish you both a life filled with a lot of love and happiness!

Cinderella Love Story

Aloha!
Sorry we have not posted in a few days. We both have been sick. But last night as I was nursing my cough and cold on the sofa I received some pictures from Grant over at Bianca Photography. I was super excited. We made Katrice and Jason's Wedding cake back in October. They had a fairy tale wedding. Topped with a Fairy Tale Castle Themed cake. This was a grand 5 tier cake with 5 different flavors topped with a castle top with all hand piping that took me 2 hours to pipe, I also placed an LED light to illuminate the top. There were over 600 hand made lavender and white roses in between each tier.

We were excited to take on this project. It was a big one and we had fun watching Katrice and Jason's face light up in amazement when they saw the cake. I love to light up cakes and this one was perfect to light up!

These pictures look so good. Much better then the ones I took so I wanted to post them for you all to see. Check out more pictures and information from Grant & Bianca Gomes at http://www.biancaphotography.com/

Have a great day!

CAUTION DRIVERS, PLEASE BE AWARE!

Aloha!!
There are so many things I want to share with all of you and I have a ton of pictures and events to share. We have been very very busy. But there is one thing that is very important to all of us who create beautiful cakes and then have to deliver them. DRIVING THEM!

It can be a long and wonderful process to design a cake for a client. It could be a wedding cake, or a special birthday or any other special event that needs a cake. You meet with the clients, we choose flavors, a design we keep in touch until the event takes place. It take time and patience to make a cake. Weighing the ingredients, mixing all of it to get a yummy cake, waiting for it in the oven, preparing the cake and decorating it. Did you know that some cakes take days to make? Hours to decorate the cake. Its a very long process. And this is all to give our clients the most breath taking cake they imagined in their mind.

One very stressful part of this whole process is delivering the cake. For me anyway. Its always stressful driving, there are so many things that can happen from pot holes to bumps and even streets to rain. Yes we all drive a little slower when we have a taller cake in the car.

One thing I want to ask to all of you who reading this, please drive slow, follow the rules o the road. And if you do not know what they are, read a drivers manual. We were delivering a cake this past weekend and we drove over the Pali and I was going with the speed limit so it was not like I was driving super slow, and I got cut off and had to hit my brakes pretty good. Well what do you think happened? Well the cake slide on the tray but all was ok, but it could have been a lot worse.

PLEASE SLOW DOWN AND RESPECT PEOPLE ON THE ROAD. You may never know why someone is driving slower or take turns a little slower. This is someones cake, someones special day. We are here to provide a service to all of you and we would like to get to our destination in one piece. And we want you as drivers to get to your place safe as well. Please, slow down and respect the rules of the road.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Pictures and more events to come.
Vikki
