Casino Life

Many of you do not know this but I grew up in Philadelphia. Atlantic city is only a short car ride away. My mom's family is from Brigantine, New jersey. its a small island north of Atlantic City. Spending time with my family "down the shore" was always a fun time. We were always at the beach. Brigantine is very small so no matter where you were you could always see the bright lights of AC. My parents would always go to the casino at nights and my sister and I would always be left behind. I always wondered what so special about going over there. Sometimes my aunt would watch us as my parents would go inside the casino. We would sit out side and wait, play on the beach, go walk the boardwalk. Sometime I would sit and look in the casino floor. Listen to all the noise, the change, and the people having fun. The colors and lights would always amaze me. And the floors....WOW, can you say TACKY. But I loved it.

When I got old enough to go inside the casino, I learned what all the fuss was about. Actually I would sneak in as a older teenager. The first time I won I was so cared yet so excited at the same time. When I was of age and I won, that was even better. Playing games is fun but expensive!! But there is nothing better then jumping int he car at midnight after work and heading down to AC and playing all night and walking out to the boardwalk at sunrise with some money in your pocket!! The sounds and smell of the boardwalk is what I love. And I miss it dearly! If your from the east coast you know what I am talking about. There is nothing like it in the world. The smell of popcorn, and french fries, eating salt water taffy till your teeth hurt. Sausage and pepper sandwich in the AM. Its great!

When I moved here I quickly found out what a big deal casinos and Las Vegas is. I have never been to Las Vegas before but I can identify.

When I have clients ask me for casino and gambling cakes I love it. It brings back all those wonderful memories. I get asked a lot for these types of cakes and this is why I am blogging about them. Below are some recent cakes I have made and there are 4 more on order for later in the year.

I hope you enjoy looking at these as much as I love to make them.
HAPPY WEDNESDAY!

ANYONE FOR A MASSAGE?

Our Friend Amy celebrated her birthday this past weekend. Her husband Paul asked us to make an extra special cake for her. He asked if we could make her massage table. Amy owns and operates Amy's haven in town.

I was so excited to take this project on. I love when I am ask for off the wall, different designs. And I knew that we would be staying for the party and having a good time with them.

I was so excited when I finished the cake. It came out so much better then I even pictures it in my head. All the little touches were perfect. And the table support that Nick built was spot on!

When we deliver cakes we get a lot of ohhs and ahhs from passer bys. And alot of other vendors or workers we are dealing with are always asking us questions and admiring our work. but this time was different since i actually stuck around to see all the guests.

We were the first ones to arrive with Amy right behind us. She had her party at Krazy Karaoke in town. We set the cake up and in followed Amy. Her arms were filled with bags and wine and she was so surprised by the cake she did not even put her thigns down first. She was amazed and all she could say was "This is brillant, just brillant" What a great compliment for me! I said "Its just cake" Then a few other party goers trickled in all of which had to look at Amy's cake. That is the best compliment. She personally took each and every person to see the cake. And introduced us. Everyone was amazed and could not believe it was a cake. No one wanted to cut it!

Paul was like a little kid with the cake. His eye lit up and he laughed at all the little things around, loved that there was a body and feet under the blanket.
It was an amazing feeling to know that I could make someone's party that much better with a cake. Its great to be there and see everyones reaction.

As for the fun, everyone was singing and dancing and having fun, even me. Thank you Paul and Amy for a great time. We can not wait for next year!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMY!

Chocolate Covered Strawberry Cake Toppers

Aloha!

This past weekend I made Alyson and David's wedding cake. They contacted me awhile back to make a strawberry themed cake. They picked strawberry shortcake and had strawberries seperating the tiers. But the really unique part of this cake was the toppers. After playing around with some ideas we decided to make a bride strawberry and a marine strawberry. But little did they know I added a cover and a veil to the toppers. They were so cute on the cake. With a little imagination we can make anything!
I wanted to share a picture with you. I hope you enjoy it.

My Cake Tattoo

Aloha!
Hope you all are enjoying another beautiful weekend. In between cakes I wanted to check my e-mail but instead I decided to show you all something I got awhile back.

As you all know I love everything about cakes and pastries. I grew up around it. My mom used to bake us the most beautiful cakes every year for our birthday. Little works of art(if I ever get those pictures I will pass them on,HINT HINT mom)...She also baked all the time for special occasions and holidays and I would always help her. I loved it, I still do like helping her. I always knew I wanted to bake and make pastries. I love to eat cake, make cake, talk about cake, look at pictures of cakes, read about it. EVERYTHING.

I also love tattoos. I think they are such a great way to express your personality. My first tattoo I got when I was 17. Yes I was young and its not the best. As I got older I got more and they got better. You see where this store is going....

A few months ago I wanted to combine both of my loves! But how? LAst year Nick and I were talking about designs for tattoo, just kind of kidding around he came up what you see below. I used my signature cake and his idea of the bowl and whisk (because if you did nto know I make everything out of a 5 qt mixer right now).

I love my tattoo and all my clients always ask to see it and think its the best tattoo. My personality really came through on this on. And Jocko(my tattoo guy) did an awesome job. He is with EASTSIDE TATTOO by the way if your looking for a great tattoo go check him out. EASTSIDE is in Kailua.

So if I deliver a cake to you ask to see it! I will love to show it off.
Have a great weekend!

LARISSA IS LEAVING

Aloha!
Those of you who know me and my company knows that I have been doing everything alone all this time. And recently it has gotten harder to keep up with everything and still have time for my family. So I hired Larissa. She was actually a client of mine. She contacted me to make her wedding cake. At her tasting we began to talk about my business and I found out that she has a strong marketing and business backround so after her wedding I hired her. She was only here a little less then a month and already she left a huge impact on my business. She really made me see my business in a different light.

Well I know it was to good to be true. Her husband is in the navy and he got his orders to go to California. So we must say goodbye to her. Its sad. Its hard to find good people let alone good workers and she was both.
Good luck Larissa and Grant! I wish you the best. And thank you for helping my business come to full circle!!

2 Special Weddings

Welcome to Tuesday! I hope the weekend was fun and relaxing for all of you. We had a busy weekend of weddings. We delt with 2 wonderful couples in the past 6 months. I was lucky to have them come to me for the wedding cakes. One wedding was Saturday and one on Sunday.

Saturday's wedding was for Amy and Scott. They contacted me a long time ago for the cake. She picked a classic and elegant design. The wedding was held at Sam Sneads and was military style, with a young fun and fresh feel to it. Just like the couple. I had a good time hanging out after setting the cake up.

KATY CASTILLO was her wedding planner

PAUL HERCHING was her photographer

ANNA BREHM supplied her custom candy bar
CANDY BUFFET HAWAII

As for our wedding on Sunday. We delt with Leone and Timothy. They had a grand traditional Samoan wedding at Hickam Officers Club. The room was beautiful. The cake that was chose was altenating flaovrs of Strawberry Shortcake and Pineapple Coconut. They ordered a lot of cake. They had the main cake being a seven tier cake with a traditional design, a smaller 2 tier cake and cupcakes for the kids. They also had a small candy buffet.

This cake had over 300 small peices cut out and adhearded to the cake. I also piped over the peices and added gold dragees all over the cake and designs. her colors were brown and gold. I have a fun making this cake.

I did not have the chance to stick around after this wedding but I know Leone looked beautiful.

I want to wish both couples plenty years of love and happiness. And thank them for choosing me to make thier day extra sweet!
